The Gaggia Anima Prestige is part of the newest line of Gaggia super-automatic machines. It features beverage programming, a sleek refined design, and a new Optiaroma system. The Optiaroma system increases the usual three aroma setting traditional to the Gaggia brand to five settings. It also allows for a maximum dosage of 11.5 grams per shot. The machine also features a smart grinder which makes micro-adjustments to the grind dosage for better tasting shots.

To prepare specialty milk drinks, the Anima Prestige uses an automatic frothing carafe which froths your milk and dispenses it into your cup. There is a dedicated button located on the front of the machine to activate the frothing cycle and produce rich, creamy milk foam. A separate nozzle attachment can be inserted into the milk carafe port in order to dispense hot water for drinks like a cafe americano or hot tea.

===Grinder Adjustment===
+

+
The machine's manual indicates that adjustments for the grinder should only be made while the grinder is running. While this is technically true, the sensor for the bean hopper sensor prevents adjustments from being made, because the grinder will turn of if the machine senses the hopper lid is open. This sensor is an additional safety feature for the U.S. version of the machine to prevent exposure to active grinder burrs; the manual does not reflect this change.
+

+
There are two ways to work around this issue. Another magnet can be placed on the hopper sensor so that the machine can be run with the lid open. The magnet should be placed in the socket pictured below in order to trip the sensor: [[File:GAGGIA ANIMA Magnet Socket.jpg|200px|thumbnail|center|Place the magnet in the socket circled in red.]]
+

+
Alternatively the grinder can be adjusted in small increments. Move the adjustment knob 1 tick, grind a shot, and then move it another tick. Do this until you are at the desired grind setting. This will ensure that any grinds or bean fragments are swept out of the way before the burr plates are moved closer together.
+

+
===Bypass Doser===
+

+
If you plan on using the bypass doser function on the machine to brew with pre-ground coffee there are a few things to consider for the best brewing experience:
+
#The bypass doser will only accept 8-9 grams of coffee at a time. The scoop that comes with the machine is merely for transferring coffee grinds, it is not a measurement tool. To prevent overfilling the bypass doser we suggest using a level scoop, and then taking a large pinch out of it. A little bit less than a full scoop is the perfect amount.
+
#If the coffee is ground too coarsely the resulting shot is going to taste sour, weak or watery. Coffee ground for espresso should be slightly finer than table sugar or sand.
+
#Alternatively it is also possible to have coffee that is ground too fine. Extremely fine grinds can result in little or no flow from the machine, and very bitter shots. Coffee that is ground too finely can cause blockages in the system that can only be resolved through deep cleaning or a repair.
+

+
Do not add whole beans, or entire bags of preground coffee into this chamber. It will cause irreversible damage to the machine.

Install It

 1. Find a swanky spot in your home for your new machine to live, preferably where the morning sun shine down on your new, personal barista.
 2. Get the power cord and the accessories out of the box.
 3. Plug the machine directly into an outlet. Don't plug it into surge protectors, extension cords, or timers.
 4. Fill the water tank.

Educate Yourself

There are a few things you should know before heating up your super-auto for the first time to keep the the espresso flowing and the milk frothing. In the video on the right, you'll learn all about recommended roasts, water hardness, grind settings, milk frothing and the brew group—or, as we like to think of it, your super-auto's inner barista.

5 Things New Super Automatic Espresso Machine Owners Should Know

Get the Right Beans

Coffee is all about the caffeine (er... flavor), and super-autos don't disappoint, though, they are a teensy bit picky when it comes to certain roasts. In particular, super-autos are oily-bean-averse, meaning they don't like extra dark or flavored beans, as they tend to gunk up the grinder. Watch the video on the right to learn how to choose the beans of your dreams and keep your grinder clean.

Find the Right Grind

Consistency is key when it comes to grind size. With super-autos, you can just set it and forget it, but it's good to know how to fine tune for your favorite roasts. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind: light roasts and small volumes such as in espresso need a finer grind, while dark roasts and long coffees favor a coarser grind. Watch the video on the right to learn more.
