Cleaning & Maintenance
Cleaning Coffee System
+

+
The coffee brewing system can be rinsed at any time through the maintenance menu of the machine. This does not need to be done on a particular schedule, because the machine should automatically prompt you when to complete the cleaning cycle. It is, however, necessary to run the cycle when the machine prompts you and should not be neglected. If this maintenance cycle is neglected unpleasant flavors can develop in the brewed drinks. The recommended cleaning product for this cycle is Jura-Capresso 2-Phase Cleaning Tablets. Instructions running the cleaning cycle can be found in the document below:

+
Rinsing Milk System
+

+
A rinse of the milk system should be completed any day that the machine is used to make a milk based drink. The dual spout milk dispensing system must be cleaned regularly with Jura Milk System Cleaner in order to maintain proper function. Depending on how the machine is programmed, the machine may not automatically prompt you to complete this cycle.
+

+
Milk Spout Cleaning
+

+
The milk spout assembly must be taken apart for cleaning any day that the machine was used to make milk based drinks to maintain machine function and keep the parts sanitary. Instructions for cleaning the dual spout can be found on p.40 of the machine manual.

+
Changing Water Filter
+

+
This machine uses a Clearyl Pro Blue water filter which should be changed every 120 liters of water, or every two months; whichever comes first. Instructions for activating and installing this filter can be found in the document below:
+

+
Descaling
+

+
The machine will automatically prompt you to descale. Descaling is not required if the Clearyl Pro Blue filter is installed in the machine. The only descaling product that should be used is Jura-Capresso Descaling Tablets. The frequency of descaling will depend on the hardness of the water in the machine. Instructions for descaling the machine can be found in the document below:

Flow Issues
+
Milk Flows Poorly/Spits
+

+
If the milk spout in flowing incorrectly or milk is spraying out then the dual spout is dirty and needs to be cleaned. Run a milk circuit cleaning cycle and disassemble the spout for cleaning. If the behavior continues replace the air intake pipe; a replacement can be found in the Welcome Pack that comes with the machine.
+

+
Little No Water/Steam From Frother
+

+
If very little water or steam is coming from the frothing wand, then the connector may be blocked by milk residues or scale buildup.
+
#Gently remove the cappuccino frother from the wand.
+
#Unscrew the black connected with the hexagonal hole on the measuring scoop that came with the machine.
+
#Clean the connector.
+
#Reattach the connector and screw it on by hand, and then gently tighten it with the scoop tool. Do not tighten it more than a quarter turn after getting the connector on hand tight or it may damage the part.
+

+
Poor Coffee Flow
+

+
There are a couple of different reasons the coffee could be flowing slowly.
+

+
#The coffee grind is set too fine, and the fine coffee particles are blocking the flow of water. Try adjusting the grind to a coarser setting.
+
#The Clearyl filter is blocking the flow of water, and may be due for replacement.
+
#There is scale buildup in the system and the machine should be descaled.
+

+

+
Grinder Issues
+

+
If the machine is not recognizing that the bean hoppers are empty, or if the machine gives a "Fill bean container" error even though the hoppers are full then the grinding mechanism needs to be cleaned. Instructions for cleaning the grinding mechanism can be found on p. 46 of the machine manual.
+

+

+
Empty Drip Tray Won't Clear
+

+
If the "Empty drip tray" error will not clear then the metal contacts on the drip tray are dirty or wet. Wipe the contacts off and dry them thoroughly before reinserting the tray into the machine.
+

+

+
Error 2
+

+
The machine was exposed to cold or freezing conditions, and the machine will not operate until the machine has reached room temperature.

Install It

 1. Find a swanky spot in your home for your new machine to live, preferably where the morning sun shine down on your new, personal barista.
 2. Get the power cord and the accessories out of the box.
 3. Plug the machine directly into an outlet. Don't plug it into surge protectors, extension cords, or timers.
 4. Fill the water tank.

Educate Yourself

There are a few things you should know before heating up your super-auto for the first time to keep the the espresso flowing and the milk frothing. In the video on the right, you'll learn all about recommended roasts, water hardness, grind settings, milk frothing and the brew group—or, as we like to think of it, your super-auto's inner barista.

5 Things New Super Automatic Espresso Machine Owners Should Know

Get the Right Beans

Coffee is all about the caffeine (er... flavor), and super-autos don't disappoint, though, they are a teensy bit picky when it comes to certain roasts. In particular, super-autos are oily-bean-averse, meaning they don't like extra dark or flavored beans, as they tend to gunk up the grinder. Watch the video on the right to learn how to choose the beans of your dreams and keep your grinder clean.

How To: Coffee Bean Selection and Grind Settings for Bean to Cup Machines

Find the Right Grind

Consistency is key when it comes to grind size. With super-autos, you can just set it and forget it, but it's good to know how to fine tune for your favorite roasts. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind: light roasts and small volumes such as in espresso need a finer grind, while dark roasts and long coffees favor a coarser grind. Watch the video on the right to learn more.
